May i present the new hatch logo, as designed by Joe Engstrom (http://joengstrom.carbonmade.com/). We're excited to have some very talented artists, including Joe, Laura Taylor and David Rowson helping put the aesthetic pieces together for our project. We have more to show off in the coming weeks.

Kincumber Days

I've been visiting Kincumber High this last week chatting and playing for yr 9, 10 and 11 classes. Most of the students have begun work on a colour. Starting with background noises using audacity to record on their laptops! Great to see them getting stuck into it and understanding the composition process.

I will post some student compositions on this site as they come. Big thanks again to Erina High for having me in last week, the students really worked hard and came out with great results!

David Rowson recently posted the video for BLUE to me. We will be working on a series of 5 videos that will link with a worksheet package for schools.

HCCTC

Today I presented, alongside Sharon McKay, at the Hunter region's creative arts conference.
We discussed all aspects of HATCH from my involvement with schools as a composer and musician and also shared how other schools have used the program.

Still in it's early days, I am really pleased to see such positive response from Music teachers in the local region. Twas' a long day but came away feeling positive about what HATCH has to offer to schools across the state.

The Dawning of HATCH

Welcome to HATCH.

Hatch is musician/songwriter Mike McCarthy and High School music teacher Sharon McKay. Together we have been developing a program for Gifted and Talented high school students (in the field of music).

Presently, we are working on the COLOURS project.

COLOURS is an instrumental album composed and performed by Mike McCarthy (www.mikemccarthy.com.au). Over ten days McCarthy wrote and recorded ten pieces based on ten different colours.
Now, we are using this project to enhance music students skills in songwriting and composition.
